I sleep on my stomach
Face down, there is almost no gap to fill — the head is already close to the mattress. Loft that helps a side sleeper actively turns the neck for a stomach sleeper. This is the one position where the answer is often the thinnest pillow available, or none.
Every fixed-loft pillow in this index is built for side sleeping and is too tall for this. That is a limit of the index, stated rather than hidden.
What the pillow has to do
- low loft required — A loft below the common band. Narrow shoulders, or a soft mattress that swallows the shoulder, can leave very little for the pillow to fill.
